Better Late than Never – Best Mixtapes of 2013!

LoveDancehall has been on hiatus for a few months, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been listening! Here are a few of the best, must have, big big big mixtapes from the year that was 2013 (in no particular order).

1. “Head Kech a Fire”.

San Diego native sound system “Tribe of Kings” is rapidly spreading their rootsy rootsy love around the world. Having released a few mixtapes throughout 2013 they received recognition and praise on many of the top reggae/dancehall blog sites. Led by selecta “Dash Eye”, they host weekly roots reggae bashments at their Sunday “Uptown Top Ranking” and have brought big players in the reggae scene to San Diego, including Gyptian. Here’s one of their best 2013 mixtapes. Big up!

2. “Be Wise”

This mixtape hosted by none other than Protoje is another “Tribe of Kings” mixtape. Roots reggae, roots revival!

3. “Yaadcore Reggae Aroma Vol. 2”

Another mixtape following the roots reggae revival trend of 2013, this deh is filled with the biggest conscious reggae tunes of the year! Featuring tracks from 2013 rising star “Chronixx”, “Protoje”, “Jesse Royal” and many others. Do not miss this one, it embodies 2013 in just over an hour of tunes.

4. “Jesse Royal – In Come the Small Axe”

Jesse Royal establishes himself as one to watch for the coming years as he incorporates his sounds into the roots revival movement which has gained steam and only seems to continue growing. Collaborating with the other young, new artists of 2013, he brings Hip-Hop styled verses over new age roots reggae riddims. There is much to like and little to push away.
