The meaning of Carnival via LargeUp & Machel Montano

It’s good to hi-light the good things others do. Here’s one of those, a mini-series from Large-Up featuring the “soca king” himself, Machel Montano. This man grew up breathing and speaking Soca music, and now, Carnival in Trinidad isn’t the same unless he’s there hyping the crowds up.

Follow him in this mini-series (each episode is only about 5 minutes long) where he explains what carnival really means, how it’s evolved, and the rituals he has in order to deliver 200% energy on the stage every time, sometimes twice in one night!

Episode 1 and 2 have been aired and are embedded bellow, check in at Large Up on Friday the 13th for the third installment.

If you’re a real Soca head make sure to check out the “Soca Powers Mixtape” from Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire and crew. PLUS, further down you’ll find a couple Machel Montano tracks to get you in the carnival mood! Time to fete!
